Keto masala tea + homemade chocolate nuts

The time before Christmas is filled with coziness, warmth, magical mood and shared moments with our closest people. The Christmas holidays are for families and friends to gather for a cup of hot tea and delicious home-made surprises. Today we have prepared two recipes with which you can arrange an afternoon treat for your family – keto masala tea, served with homemade chocolate nuts. The hot drink will give you Himalayan aromas, and the chocolate nuts will complement the pleasant atmosphere.

What do we need to make keto masala tea?

There are three components – tea, spices and milk, and in each of them we have a wide choice:

  • Tea – It is recommended to use strong black tea, such as Assam, which is named after the largest tea region in the world, located in northeastern India. Of course, you can add another type of black tea, as well as replace it with tea to your liking – green, chamomile, cardamom and more.
  • Spices – the most important ingredient is cardamom, because of the pronounced aroma. You can add it to dried seeds or ground. The other options are many – in our recipe we will add cloves, cinnamon sticks, black peppercorns, a little fresh ginger and star anise for flavor and beautiful and finished look.
  • Milk – In India, raw heavy milk such as buffalo, cow’s or goat’s milk is used. In our mission for the perfect keto-friendly masala tea we will make it with coconut milk, which can be replaced by another type of nut milk, to your liking. Most of the carbohydrates come from the milk added to the tea, so you can change the proportions by using more water and less milk.

Carbohydrates per serving: 13. 8 g

Required quantities for our recipe:

  • 1 liter of coconut milk
  • 30 g of cardamom
  • 30 g cloves
  • 30 g cinnamon sticks
  • 4-5 grains of black pepper
  • 20 g of fresh ginger
  • 5 g star anise
  • 60-70 g of black tea
  • 1 tbsp steviola powder or 1 tbsp. steviola vanilla

Preparation of the drink:

  • The first step is to prepare the spices. We separate the cardamom seeds and together with the other spices of the beans we crush them in a mortar. Break the cinnamon sticks and cut (or grate) the ginger.
  • In a large saucepan pour 2.5 liters of water, add the crushed spices and anise stars. Put on the stove and put the lid to steam the spices. Once the mixture boils, let it boil for another 4-5 minutes.
  • After boiling, remove the pan from the heat and immediately add the black tea. Cover with a lid and leave to simmer for about 5 minutes, then strain.
  • Return the strained liquid to the hob, add the milk and, if desired, steviola powder or steviola vanilla, and stir until a nice, homogeneous mixture is obtained.

The recipe for keto masala tea is fulfilled. When serving, you can save a few stars of anise and cinnamon sticks for decoration.

Masala tea – the healing power of the Himalayas

The history of masala tea is very interesting and is associated with three different cultures – Chinese, British and Indian. Fairy tales tell of an ancient Indian king who created a tea recipe to keep him awake during the long court hours.

The recipe included various spices in the drink to purify it and have a viscous effect. Thus, the recipe became a tradition and passed on to ordinary people who used it for medicinal purposes.

In Hindi, the word masala means “mixture of spices.” The classic version of the drink is with black tea, but it can be replaced with other options, such as green tea, rooibos or to boil only spices in water. Interestingly, every spice in masala tea helps this human organ, which looks like.

Cinnamon resembles bones, so it helps the bone system by warming it. Nutmeg is closer in shape to that of the brain, respectively, helps and slows down problems with dementia, keeping our brain at a well-functioning, healthy level.

Cloves look like red blood cells. Cardamom, in addition to healing the liver, can be chewed and is useful for dental problems.

Homemade chocolate nuts

A light dessert should be served with the delicious tea drink, which in the afternoon will be a pleasure for the palate and energy for the body. We have prepared an extremely easy and quick offer for serving – homemade chocolate nuts.

Necessary products for the recipe:

  • 200 g chocolate with steviola
  • 1 tbsp melted coconut oil
  • 300 g mix of raw nuts to your taste (walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds)
  • Optional – coconut shavings for decoration

Melt the chocolate in a water bath and add the melted coconut oil to it. Stir and add the nuts to the mixture, rolling them very well. Spread parchment paper on a tray or other plate and with kitchen tongs or a spoon take out the nuts and arrange them on it. If desired, sprinkle with coconut shavings and store in the refrigerator to cool for about half an hour.

During this time you can make keto masala tea and serve the chocolate nuts with the still hot drink.
